SES Mathletes Excel at 2024 IRSC Math Olympics
Ten Saint Edward's students attended the 2024 Math Olympics at Indian River State College on Friday, April 5. The Varsity Team (above Algebra 2) consisted of Owen Miller (12), Sienna Mallon (11), Max Plotkin (11), Conor Powell (11) and Rushil Sura (11). The Junior Varsity Team (Algebra 2 and below) consisted of Rosalie Miller (9), Nahlia Hebig (8) James Peponis (8), Alexandra Jefferson (7) and Charlotte Peponis (7). Each student completed a 40-question individual test and then worked together to solve 10 challenging questions as a team. For the team competition, the quicker the team submitted an answer the more points earned. Saint Edward's competed against 11 other schools from the Treasure Coast counties.
After the Team portion, the V team finished 5th place and the JV team finished 1st place. Including the individual results, the JV team finished 1st place overall and won cash prizes and swag. James Peponis earned a perfect 40/40 on his individual test! The other JV members earned scores of 39/40, 38/40, 37/40 and 36/40. Nice work, Pirate Mathletes!
