Varsity Track & Field Sees Hard Work Pay Off at Districts

The varsity track and field team competed in the Class 1A District 13 Tournament on 4/27/24 at The Benjamin School. The girls team placed 4th overall, and the boys team placed 6th. Both teams' hard work this season paid off as many of the Pirates placed high their respective events, with those placing in the top 4 in their events automatically qualifying to compete in Regionals. Several Pirates are also strong contenders for one of the 8 at-large Regional qualifying positions that will be determined by 5/4/24.

Jack Curley was District champion for the boys team in both the 1600m (4:45.59) and 3200m (11:54.27). He also finished 4th in Javelin (36.26m) to break his personal school record and to qualify to compete in Regionals in all 3 events. Jamin Dunham captured 4th place in the 3200m with 12:32.33 to qualify for regionals. Matthew Cocks not only set a personal record in Discus but also broke his own school record by 1.6m with his 5th place 27.70m throw. He also placed 9th in Javelin with 24.97m. William Suleman secured 7th place in Javelin (26.46m) and set a personal record in Discus with his 8th place finish at 19.59m. Dean Sincavage finished 9th in the 1600m with a 5:46.33 to set a new personal record and placed 10th in Javelin with 22.95m. Trey Donohoe finished 12th in the Long Jump with 4.35m and set a personal record in the 400m with 1:05.27.

Elizabeth Campbell was proclaimed District Champion for the girls team in the 1600m with her time of 5:47.12 and automatically qualified for Regionals. She also placed 9th in the 800m. Mia Perez qualified for Regionals with both her 2nd place finish in Javelin (25.37m) and her 4th place finish in Discus (24.53m). She also finished 7th in the 200m with her personal best time of 28.70. Breaking her school record, Meagan Baker's 3rd place throw of 9.16m qualified her for Regionals in Shot Put. She also finished 5th in Discus with her 23.38m throw. Jacquelyn Perrin captured 4th place in the 3200m with 14:27.53 to qualify for Regionals and also placed 7th in the 1600m with 6:31.27. Nahlia Hebig set new personal records with both her 7th place finish (4.25m) in the Long Jump and her 8th place finish of 28.82 in the 200m. Isabella Peter placed 7th in the 3200m (16:07.48) and 9th in the 1600m (7:01.09). Riley Wilkerson placed 7th in the 100m to set a new personal best with her time of 14.20 and finished 11th in the 200m with a personal best of 29.51. Tajani Gayle finished 9th in the 100m (14.34) and 13th in the 200m (29.93), and Marlo Wilkerson placed 12th in the 100m with 14.75 and 13th in the Long Jump with 3.38m. Milani Perez finished 12th in the Long Jump with 3.44m and 13th in the 100m with 15.61, and Kamara Simon finished 14th in the Long Jump with 3.35m and 17th in the 400m with 1:19.59.

In relay events, the girls relay team consisting of Mia Perez, Hebig, Perrin, and Campbell nabbed 4th place in the 4x400 Relay at 4:32.71 to secure their Regional bid.
 
Next meet is the Class 1A Region 4 Tournament on on 5/7/24 at Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale. Starting time is TBA.
